Introduction

There are a large number of paralegal staff in a wide range of organisations undertaking prosecutorial casework - managing files, prosecuting cases, collating evidence, liaising with advocates, enforcement agencies and the court, administering the appeals process, etc.

Many of these organisations tend to work in isolation so no specific qualifications, and few tailored training courses, have been developed for caseworkers. This makes it both difficult to demonstrate the competence of people who essentially do the same job, and to disseminate best practice.

In 2003 ILEX Tutorial College Ltd ('ITC') partnered with the Council for Administration and established a National Occupational Standards (´NOS´) working party for Caseworkers. Government funding was made available, and ITC and the Council are working to produce the NOS in conjunction with Working Party members. If you wish to know more about the Working Party, please contact ITC's Managing Director, Noel Inge, at ILEX Tutorial College, College House, Manor Drive, Kempston, Beds MK42 7AB or visit www.ilex-tutorial.ac.uk
